Tensions ran high at Parklands School today as nine eager competitors battled it out in hope of claiming the mantle of ‘Parklands’ Spelling Bee Champion’.

Following the huge success of our Autumn term competition, an abundance of children wanted to take part in this term’s Spelling Bee, but unfortunately there could only be only one champion to represent each of the nine classes (Years 2-6). After the first round, it was clear to see that this was going to be a well-fought battle, and the audience were not to be disappointed!

The standard of spelling that was demonstrated by each of the children was incredibly impressive, and, although there could only be one winner, every one of the children certainly represented their classes admirably. In fact, the standard was so impressive that we had to move onto a dictionary showdown between Ben Parsons-Cork (Year 4) and Maddie Heyworth (Year 6) where the children battled it out with words that were not part of their Spelling Bee list, wow!

Eventually, Ben claimed victory and is now the second Spelling Bee Champion following the victory of Billy Netley-Harris in the Autumn term (well done, Ben!). A huge congratulations also to Ben Taylor who won the prize out of the Year 2 and 3 children and to all of the other competitors (see below) who truly did themselves proud.

I hope that the children of Parklands continue to shine with their spellings and I look forward to the Summer Spelling Bee!
